Ahead of the Grand Sumo Tournament at the Royal Albert Hall this October, Japan House London is showing special screenings of the 2020 documentary Sumodo: The Successors of Samurai.
Over six months in the making, this documentary goes inside the training stables of two sumo wrestlers Sakaigawa-beya and Takadagawa-beya.
The film captures the gruelling discipline of early-morning practice, the surprising details of daily life, the unshakable ties between wrestlers and their masters and the raw intensity of tournament battles.
